Voices for the Animals has been set up by Martin Whybrow as a hub for news, features and events across the animal rights and welfare movement, in the UK and beyond.
Martin is the author of ‘How Long Shall These Things Be?: Inspirational stories from the front line for animals’. He is a career journalist, vegan and is active in the animal rights movement. This has included with Animal Rebellion, as part of its media team; volunteering with various animal charities; outreach with We The Free; and participating in a number of campaigns and actions. He has also been a Green Party councillor for 12+ years.

For the book, he has interviewed many of the sector’s most influential pioneers, including Dr Richard Ryder (who, among other things, coined the word ‘speciesism’), Clare Druce (Chickens’ Lib), and Peter Singer (author of the highly influential book, ‘Animal Liberation’) and the heads of the main NGOs, including Ingrid Newkirk (PETA), Juliet Gellatley (Viva!), Claire Palmer (Animal Justice Project), Abi Penny (Animal Equality), Emma Slawinski (League Against Cruel Sports), Jane Tredgett (Humane Being/Scrap Factory Farming), Tim Phillips and Jan Creamer (National Anti-Vivisection Society/Animal Defenders International), Iain Green (Animal Aid) and Simon Russell (Hunt Saboteurs Association).

He has also interviewed many front line campaigners including John Curtin, Tom Harris, Jes Jester, Ronnie Lee, Ben Newman and Rose Patterson (Animal Rising), Don Staniford and Jamie Moyes (salmon farming), Dave and Cee Wetton, and Roger Yates.
Also interviewed are those running sanctuaries; campaigning in particular areas of cruelty (such as greyhound, pigeon and horse racing; circuses and the fur trade; and live animal exports); using the law to try to bring positive change for animals; hunt and badger cull sabbing; education; and buying and rewilding animal agricultural land. If you have an action, news, campaign or event, please make contact. We are also keen to showcase talent from within the movement, so if you would like to write for us, are interested in research and investigations, or are a photographer or film maker, we’d love to hear from you.
